Biography

  • LAURA STANDLEY has a wealth of directing, artistic, educational and administrative experience.

  • Ms. Standley is an Associate Member of the STAGE DIRECTORS AND CHOREOGRAPHERS SOCIETY.

  • Ms. Standley is an ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF THEATRE (2010-Present) at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA where she directs and choreographs multiple shows a year and teaches courses in directing and all levels of acting.

  • Before academia, Ms. Standley was FOUNDING MEMBER and ASSOCIATE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR (2005-2008) of Ground Up Productions in New York City, nominated for two Innovative Theatre Awards.

  • Before turning her focus to directing, Ms. Standley was a PROFESSIONAL ACTRESS (1995-2005), and performed many roles in New York and the Regions. She still acts when she can, most recently in ReWritten, co-written by Tom Truss and Matthew Cumbie with the Berkshire Historical Society at Herman Mellville’s Arrowhead.

  • Before gaining her MASTERS OF FINE ARTS IN ACTING from the University of California, Irvine (1997), she worked primarily in theaters in Oklahoma City, where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Theatre: University of Central Oklahoma (1994). Among her related experience in Oklahoma, she served as the Assistant to the Artistic Director, Jaime Rocco at Lyric Theatre (1995).
